Anna Pakes).

Abstract

The Aesthetics of Falling project draws on disability studies, critical and political sociology ofcare, aesthetics, and phenomenology of embodied experience. It aims to study, from a humanities perspective, the aesthetic and moral experience of those who witness a fall. This European-wide project, led by a philosopher specializing in kinesthetic empathy (C. Leroy ) and a scholar in literary and disability studies and care ethics (A. Hiskes), will take the form of two study days with a view to producing a collaborative work within the Aesthetics of Carecollection at Routledge (ed. J. Thompson), where C. Leroy has already published her book Kinaesthetic Empathy, Ethics and Care (trans. Anna Pakes). These study days will bring together 15 participants for a workshop on somatic practices focused on the experience of falling and being caught/supported, both from the perspective of the person who lets themselves fall and that of the person who witnesses the fall and its reception by others. The exploratory workshop will give rise to individual written productions, inspired by explanatory interviews and micro phenomenology. These productions will be analyzed by the researchers, before a public conference open to discussion, extending beyond the workshop participants.
